1. What is the size of a typical contract that your company will take on?

Our jobs generally range from one day to several weeks in length. Contracts larger or smaller than this are certainly accepted

2. How long do I have to wait to have the work completed once I decide to have the project completed?

Currently we are booking into summer 2022. This does vary throughout the season so contacting us as soon as possible is always recommended, especially to beat the spring rush.

3. Are you fully insured and do your employees have workers compensation coverage?

Yes, we are fully covered. We would be happy to provide you with a certificate of insurance upon request.

4. Do I have to give you a down payment?

Usually we require 25 - 50% of the job cost at the contract signing to cover material orders and time dedications.

5. Will you be hiring any subcontractors?

We sometimes subcontract certain portions of work to specialized contractors. We only work with subcontractors whose standards are as high as our own.

6. Do I really need a professional?

People underestimate the work load required to do landscaping work around their property. For certain projects you will most likely need to have your existing grade adjusted to accomodate the new product. Consider the costs of all the things that you will need. By the time you have your materials delivered, plus you might need equipment to help you, the cost will add up. Also, do you really want to spend your weekends laboring in your yard? A professional install will offer you good value if you really consider all of the aspects.

7. What areas do you service?

We work in many areas throughout the Ottawa Valley. This includes Renfrew, Arnprior, Braeside, Cobden, Eganville, Foymount, Calabogie, and Douglas. Even if your area is not mentioned here that doesn't mean we won't go there. Please call us to inquire.

8. What form of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, E-transfers and cheques.

Alex brings over 25 years of experience and expertise allowing Valley Landscaping & Excavating to perform top quality jobs. Our company originated and still exists in Douglas, Ontario. Quarry

Our Limestone quarry is now licenced and in operation. The armour stone comes in many different sizes from stones for large retaining walls down to steps. Our stone is peeled out with an excavator and not from the blast. This allows for more consistent sizes which makes it easier for placing the stone.

Interlocking brick is a great choice and can be used for any number of landscaping projects: driveways, retaining walls, walkways and patios. It is a very versatile choice with many different colours. The one main advantage of interlock is the ability to re-level it. With our harsh environment many surfaces will crack and sink, especially concrete and asphalt. It can become very expensive to fix this problem. With interlock you only have to remove the stones, re-level the base and lay the stones back in place.

A typical excavation depth for interlock is 8"-10" but at Valley Landscaping & Excavating our standard is 12"-16" of crushed stone. The more depth added to the crushed stone base will increase its durability and resistance to heaving. When interlock is installed properly you can get about 15-20 years out of it. The key to any installation is the crushed stone base. The more of a base, the longer the life of the project will be.

When we come out to do the job we make sure it is done right the first time and will give you a long lasting structure that you can be happy with.

Seeding and Sod

There is a common misconception that seeding is the best way to establish a lawn because it is much less expensive than sodding. In realty, sodding turns out to be less expensive over time once costs such as increased maintenance inputs and repair are accounted for.

Below is a chart of pro's and con's you can use to make your decision. No matter which way you go we always start with a good topsoil base to ensure optimal growth.

	Seeding	Sod
Planting	Seed must be planted at the beginning of the growing season, and will need to be covered with straw or netting to protect seed from washing away or being eaten by birds. Watering will need to occur lightly but frequently for two to four weeks to keep the soil most, but prevent the seed from washing away.	Sod can be planted almost anytime through spring and fall. It does need to be layed as soon as it arrives. Sod can be used practically anywhere and can be used to stop soil erosion and water pollution.
Coverage	Seed can take weeks to grow, and even then only a portion of the seed planted will germinate. A large percentage of the seed will fail to germinate due to poor stands, erosion, bird consumption, and a variety of other reasons.	Because sod is grown by professionals, and thick and lush lawn can be established in merely a few hours.
Grass Variety	A variety of seeds are often available from your local home or garden center. Furthermore, you can create your own seed blend from the available selection to best suit your growing condition.	You will be limited to the sod from your local farm which is Kentucky Bluegrass
Weeds	The germination time required for seed also gives ample opportunity for weed growth.	Sod is professionally grown and is less inclined to allow weed growth.
Expense	If optimal conditions exist, the upfront costs of establishing a lawn by seed are much less than sod.	The initial cost of establishing a lawn by sod are relatively expensive, but the rewards are immediate and the maintenance is much less involved than seeding.
Maintenance	A newly seeding lawn will require several weeks of watering, and more than likely, several growing seasons of overseeding and fertilization to become thick and lush.	After the sod is installed, it will require a few weeks of watering and regular fertilization to maintain your green lawn.
Usability	Seeded lawns require as long as 2 years to become fully mature and established	Sodded lawns can usually withstand traffic within 2 weeks of installation, depending on local conditions.

With today's ecological concerns, many more people are considering sod for its environmental benefits. Sod cools and cleans the atmosphere by reflecting the sun's heat and absorbing noises, carbon dioxide and other harmful pollutants. It releases valuable oxygen and moisture into the air we breath. As it grows, sod silently contributes to a healthier environment. Sod can also increase your property value significantly.

We will clean-up your lot or property by removing unwanted growth, scrub brush and trees, trash including tires and other unwanted items. By removing the unwanted trees and underbrush you add tremendous value to your property. Cleared lots typically sell for 5-20% more then uncleared lots. It allows prospective buyers to walk the property rather than crawling thru brush and debris and enables them to envision the location of their new home.

Fence lines should be taken care of twice a year or as needed. Grass and weeds can reduce the life of your fence by half; clearing up the fence line will ensure you get the full value and life out of your fence.

Many companies only cut trees, shrubs and other growth down leaving the tree stumps in the ground. This can cost you more money in the long run if these stumps are located where you plan on building. A good builder will have to remove these stumps before building and will typically have to rent a backhoe to pry these stumps out of the ground. In addition, the stumps can become a breeding ground for termites. We have equipment to remove the stumps from your property.
